Pure cosiness in the Mittellegi hut
Cosiness is therefore guaranteed in the Mittellegi hut even on stormy days.
The first successful ascent over the Mittellegi ridge took place in 1921. Three years later, the first Mittellegi hut was opened. Mountaineers are now rewarded with more comfort.
There is a sleeping area and a seating area in the hut for every visitor. The new lounge radiates a rustic cosiness with its light-coloured wood, the seating area and the BANDO wood stove.
Hut warden Melanie Lehnherr appreciates this comfort: «It's often only around 12 degrees in the hut in the morning, so I light the stove before the first coffee, which my guests really appreciate. And especially on stormy nights, an evening in the hut with a crackling fire is unforgettably beautiful.»
Melanie Lehnherr has been bitten by the hut bug since she was a schoolgirl. «It is a great pleasure and honour for me to be able to welcome and cater for mountaineers from all over the world on the Eiger.»
The Mittellegi hut is usually open from July and can accommodate 38 people. In winter, a bivouac with eight beds is available - unfortunately, the stove remains cold.
