Fire Tips
No oxygen - no fire. Thanks to the AIR system, fresh air can be supplied from outside and the stove burns room air independent.
The room air independent installation of a stove is particularly important in houses with a tight building envelope (e.g. low-energy house / Swiss Minergie standard). Such modern houses are often built so tightly that there is not enough air in the living room to supply the fire with sufficient oxygen in the long term. With room air independent installation of a stove, on the other hand, the fresh air required for combustion is not taken from the installation room, but is supplied to the stove in a controlled manner via a flexible hose.
In almost all Attika stoves and heating inserts, this connection can be made via the so-called AIR system either through the floor or through the rear wall. Ideally, such an external air supply should already be taken into account when planning a new build, conversion or renovation.
Once connected to the AIR system, a stove burns room air independent and ensures a perfect fire even in living rooms with a ventilation vacuum of up to 4 pascals. Attika also offers the AIR installation set for a visually discreet and matching connection.
Thanks to the AIR system, parapet stoves can therefore be installed in low-energy or Minergie houses without any problems. In Germany, most of our stoves also fulfil the strict requirements of the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt). Stoves that fulfil these requirements have a so-called Z number. With this approval, the stoves have proven that they also function perfectly in living spaces that are exposed to increased negative pressure due to controlled room ventilation systems. To put it simply: with a DIBt-approved stove, it is not possible for a ventilation system generating negative pressure to draw smoke from the firebox into the living space. DIBt-approved stoves with a Z number are also always equipped with a self-closing door (type 1), which is mandatory.
PS: A room air independent installation using the AIR system is also worthwhile in houses without a ventilation system or with a particularly tight construction. Your Attika dealer will be happy to advise you!
