From 9 November 2025, the new European Standard EN 16510 will apply to stoves and fireplaces. It replaces the previous standards EN 13240 for stoves and EN 13229 for fireplace inserts. But what does this change mean?
The new European standard EN 16510 specifies how stoves and fireplaces are tested and evaluated. It replaces the previous standards EN 13240 and EN 13229 and ensures uniform standards throughout Europe.
The biggest change concerns the test procedures: These have been adapted to obtain more realistic and comparable values.
The new standard also provides greater clarity on issues such as safety distances from combustible materials. For each model, the minimum distances to be maintained in order to ensure safe installation are precisely defined.
In summary, this means that the standard ensures greater transparency and comparability in terms of technical values and environmental compatibility.
The new standard is not retroactive. Devices that have already been installed or put into operation are not affected and can continue to be used without restriction. Stoves and fireplaces that were placed on the market by the manufacturer before 9 November 2025 may also continue to be sold and installed.
Since 9 November 2025, manufacturers have only been allowed to sell appliances that have been tested in accordance with the EN 16510 standard.
Appliances that are already in the sale, such as display appliances or appliances in stock at retailers, are also not affected by this new standard. In this case, the dealer is not considered to be the distributor and the sale of such appliances is permitted.
All Attika models in the current range have been tested – their quality and performance remain unchanged. In other words, only the documentation for Attika products has been changed. There is no technical difference between an Attika product before and after EN 16510.
Although there are no changes to the design of the stoves and fireplaces, technical performance values may differ slightly due to the new testing standard.
Please note:
The values printed in the current Attika catalogue are still based on the old standard. The current values according to EN 16510 can be found in the download area for the respective product.
